History and Introduction of Ginger beer:

Ginger beer is the apt one if you are the fan of a good Moscow Mule. Ginger Beer is originated in the mid of 18th century in Yorkshire in England and it became very popular in the 20th century.

Generally, ginger is used as a medicine and flavoring agent for all food in India and China. Ginger beer is first brewed as an alcoholic beverage containing 11 percent ABV, but now it is a non-alcoholic beverage which is a Spicy-Sweet fermented Soda.

A British tax excise a law that the drink must contain less than 2 percent of alcohol only so our makers added more water to their brew so that is what you can find now as an alcoholic ginger beer.

How to Prepare:

  • Ginger beer is very simple to DIY you need to spend a bit of time only.

  • Taka fresh ginger, wash and grate it using a comfortable tool like box grater or micro plane.

  • Take a saucepan and add the grated ginger with 1 cup of filtered water.

  • Add ½ cup of granulated sugar and ¼ cup of brown sugar for mouth licking taste.

  • Boil the mixture in a medium heat and stir it to dissolve sugar.

  • Turn off the heat and keep aside for at least an hour.

  • When the syrup become steeped, strain it into a fine mesh sieve.

  • If you don’t like to ferment then add one or more tablespoons of syrup into a seltzer –ginger ale hybrid (it will taste like dark heaven and stormy scoop).

  • If u want to ferment then add the syrup into a 2litre soda bottle and add a pinch of dry yeast and little nit lemon juice and cold filtered water.

  • Fill it in the bottle up to 2inches from its top.

  • If u want to play more, mix the syrup, yeast, sugar in a liquid measuring cup and divide it into an 11glass bottles for fermentation.

  • The bubbles form in the bottle will build pressure and make the glass to shatter so fill the bottles with cold filtered water with a 2-3inches gap.

  • Close the bottle with a lid like a snow globe and set it in a room temperature in direct sunlight for 2or 3 days.

  • Burp the bottles by partially removing caps to release the pressure formed inside for every 6-13hrs.

  • Taste the beer, if it’s fizzy enough then transfer it to the fridge and chill it.

  • Serve with cocktails or simply with is a best and simple drink within a week, can be prepared in the home also.
